Joni Byun brings more than 20 years of communications and community-based outreach expertise to the team. She started her career at a nonprofit organization and has brought her expertise in community-based organizations to local, statewide and national campaigns reaching diverse communities. As Senior Vice President, Joni serves as both project manager and strategic counsel on campaigns to build capacity, promote access and engage diverse audiences on health, environmental, economic and social justice issues.
Joni leads strategic communications planning with government agencies, nonprofits and foundations including A Place Called Home, Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), First 5 LA, CalTrans Don’t Trash California and California Public Utilities Commission Universal Lifeline Telephone Services which included managing “street teams” of youth and community outreach workers.
Joni produces social marketing campaigns for the California Tobacco Control Program, California Department of Health Services Teen Pregnancy Prevention and outreach campaigns on breast cancer early detection and HIV/AIDS testing.
Joni received her B.A. in Social Sciences and Comparative Cultures from University of California, Irvine. She is a board member for the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development (CAPACD), the American Heart Association and the YWCA Santa Monica/Westside. She also is a Leadership California Fellow and a National Urban Fellow.
